The City of Gosnells has utilised Mineral Magic as part of the rehabilitation process of the grassed amphitheatre at Centennial Pioneer Park, and the recently upgraded grass surface at the Administration Gardens on Albany Highway Gosnells.
As a result the City has stipulated Mineral Magic as part of the 'in-ground' soil amendment specifications for the Gosnells Oval and Mary Carroll Park refurbishment projects.
The City is happy with the results to date, and is proud to be supporting a WA based product in its ongoing mission of supplying high quality parks, sporting fields and garden areas, in conjunction with reducing water usage and improving nutrient uptake and soil structure.

Mineral Magic is made of Biogenic Amorphous Silica in three grades of ‘chip’, for Lawn, Garden and Hydroponic.
Available in 10kg, 20 kg and bulker bags.

Recommended Rates for Garden soil
The more Mineral Magic you add, the more water and nutrients are held in the soil, choose to add between 500 gms to 10 kgs per sqm. If your garden area is 80 sqm, two 20 kg bags would permanently treat it at the lowest rate.
How much to use for garden beds and pots?
- From 500g per square metre increases plant available water and results in healthier, more robust plant growth.
- Add higher rates for vegetables and exotic plants such as roses.
- Trees and potting mix, between 5% to 20% of soil mix volume (more for sand, less for loam and clay soils)
Garden Conditioner
Mineral Magic Garden Conditioner is a unique natural rock mineral that absorbs water and nutrients and permanently improves all types of soil. It is 100% natural, certified organic and a waterwise approved input. Adding even a small amount makes a big difference
How does it hold water?
Biogenic amorphous silica is composed of tiny fossilized radiolarian plankton that died over 125 million years ago. Its intricate honeycomb structure absorbs and releases plant available water and nutrients more efficiently than clays, so you only need to use relatively small amounts to dramatically improve soil. As little as 500 grams per sqm boosts the water and nutrient holding capacity of sandy soils without being sticky or clumping. It also improves the results of wetting agents and fertilizer by absorbing and then slowly releasing them.
Mineral Magic has a special extra benefit, it also releases plant available silicon, which strengthens plant cells and helps protect them from stresses such as baking hot summer weather, drought, and insect attacks.
How to Use
Mineral Magic is easy to hoe into existing soil, treat an entire area all at once, a little at a time or just mix into planting holes, or potting mix. Adding compost at the same time gets an even better result than adding either material alone. It is like 1 + 1 = 5.
Exotic plants and veggie Patches
By adding a higher percentage to sandy ground, more water is held in the soil. Adding between 4% to 10% is better for large leaved plants like green leafy vegetables and soft fruiting trees such as fig and stone fruit to provide more water. They will also be more resilient to very hot weather and less troubled by pests and diseases. Seedlings will not need to be watered as frequently, and you will grow more with less water.
Native Gardens
Ideal to help get native plants established, adding water holding capacity without changing the soil structure. A few small handfuls in a planting hole will help nurture native plants and trees through their first hot summer, with far fewer losses. The larger the plant will grow, the more you should add to the planting hole area. (You cannot add too much, the ground does not become wet and soggy)

Lawn Conditioner

The hotter and drier the weather, the more material can be added.
Lawns
- New lawns, prior to planting, seeding or turfing spread 500 gms per square metre and hoe it into the top 10 cm. Adding a 30cm layer of organic soil conditioner and hoeing both in will have even better results.
- Existing lawns, add a total of 500 gms per square meter in multiple applications. For example, 250 grams per square meter added twice, a few weeks apart. Mineral Magic can be mixed with other mediums such as coir or organic soil conditioner and added after coring the lawn area. Common ratios are between 10% to 40% of the other medium.
What is the Lawn Conditioner?
Mineral Magic is a unique natural biogenic rock mineral that dramatically improves the water holding capacity of soils and reduces plant stress in extreme conditions. The Lawn Conditioner is the same material as the Garden Conditioner, conveniently in smaller chip size to work beneath blades of grass when used for top dressing.
The result is a stronger healthier lawn less likely to suffer from severe pest and disease attacks. Ideal for top dressing existing turf grass and improving soil ready for laying new lawns. A 100% natural, organic and waterwise approved input that permanently improves soil structure.
How does it hold water?

Mineral Magic holds up to 60% of its weight in water and nutrient which is readily released to the root system reducing the demand on water and increasing the drought tolerance of your lawn. This ability to hold and utilise water and nutrient also greatly reduces the risk of nutrient leaching that leads to pollution of our native waterways.
Benefits of plant available silicon (PAS)
Mineral Magic releases PAS to plants, which plays a vital role in the health of lawns where leaves and their PAS content are removed during mowing. PAS greatly improves cellular strength while increasing the photosynthesis process, and reduces transpiration from leaves during hot weather.
The result is that your lawn is more tolerant to pest and disease attack, copes better with the rough and tumble of children and pets as well as using less water. The shape of the mineral chip also helps reduce soil compaction in areas of heavy foot traffic.
This product is climate change friendly increasing atmospheric greenhouse gas absorption and assisting the lawn to absorb and bind carbon into the soil.
How is this better than adding clay?
The main advantages are that Mineral Magic is far more effective in small quantities, and it adds a higher percentage of plant available water without making the ground soggy, sticky or hard.
It works in a different way. Commonly available clays such as kaolin work simply by reducing the rate of flow of water through sandy soil by plugging the gaps between particles of sand, and to achieve this, at least 10 kgs per sqm need to be added to be effective. The downside of this is that it also plugs the air holes, and can easily become compacted with foot traffic.
Mineral Magic is effective at raising the field capacity of water in soil, and nutrient storage with as little as 100 grams per sqm because of the very sturdy internal honeycomb structure.
500 grams per sqm has proven to be a ‘sweet spot’ for improving sandy ground for growing lawns. Depending on your budget, climate and soil type, adding more might be beneficial.
